Blacksmithing Days 2002

The 2003 "Blacksmithing Days - Age of Iron" was much larger event. Incorporating four blacksmithing groups (Capital District Blacksmiths' Association, Berkshire Blacksmiths, Northeast Blacksmiths Association, and the New England Blacksmiths) over 50 blacksmiths participated.

Oak & Acorn, in conjunction with, CDBA and Evolution Ironworks hosted the "Green Coal" area so the general public and other new smiths could try their hand at blacksmithing. Also involved were Oak & Acorn students; who not only continued their lessons there, but were able to see first hand the countless techniques employed by the smiths demonstrating.

Dan Crowther (5th Century Irish re-enactor) and a neighboring Viking re-enactor work together to start the forge fire with flint and steel.

Cormack McInnean (Dan Crowther) dries a sword in a futile attempt to thwart the rain.

The last hearty souls from the "New England Blacksmiths". When the rest of NEB fled the weather on the second day, these fine people (and approx 4 others) stuck it out.

Samantha, from Albany, NY

Andy VanSchoick, from Albany, NY and CDBA Vice President - form fits an anvil "tie down" to the base of his anvil.
